Lauren and Alex

Laketown Beach – Holland Michigan.

I’m crossing my fingers that these are the last photos with snow for a while. The sun is finally out trying to warm up this freezing mitten, and I’m so ready for some spring sun on my skin. I do love the beach in the winter, and hanging out with Lauren and Alex was pretty great, just look at them, they are beautiful.

mae - girl, your work just keeps hitting new levels. i love it.

Alyssa and Eric

In T-4 days I am making my first trip out west. Yep, I’ve never been farther west than Minneapolis, MN and I sure am ready for some desert. I’m going to be attending WPPI, a wedding photography conference in Las Vegas, and from there driving to Palm Springs, CA for a few days of poolside relaxation and wandering around Joshua Tree. (I’m trying to rub it in a little bit to make up for the years of snowy spring breaks I endured while my friends went to Florida or Cancun.. sorry bout it.) Got myself a brand spankin’ new lens and some Fuji Instax film, so I’m all good to go.

I have a few images to share from Alyssa and Eric’s engagement session at VanRaalte Farms in Holland. These two are such sweeties, and I applaud them for trudging around in knee-high snow (and attempting to sit in it at one point) for the sake of these photographs.

Cindy - Love these!!

Kristyn - love this shoot! :))

katie and sean

howdy ya’ll.

Soo.. sick of winter yet? I’d say me too but I’ve still got some winter love to share with you. I am excited to take a little break from the snow in a few short weeks. A lovely friend and I will be trekking out to the WPPI (wedding photographer) conference in Las Vegas  and heading to Palm Springs from there. I’ve never been to the conference before.. or out west before so it’s safe to say I’m pretty ready to hit the road. Well, the air.

Today I’ve got a few from Katie and Sean’s engagement session in Ann Arbor. We shot in one of my favorite places, Nichols Arboretum on U of M’s campus, and then headed to the Natural History Museum per their request. (They’re both science nerds so…) We had a great time together and I was once again reminded why I love what I do. Shooting in the winter is kind of like excercising for me.. it’s really hard to get myself out there to do it, but it’s so worth it.

P.S. you likely already know this, but if you don’t, I kinda have this thing for Rihanna. And it’s her birthday.
So happy birthday Rihanna. Cake Cake Cake. :)

Kristyn - eeep! these are great! the shot under the bridge has to be my favorite. :)

Zack - Oh my gosh, I love these!

mae - Loooooooooooooovvvvveee.

Just a few frames from a much needed weekend away, hiking through a quiet, bare forest and across a frozen lake. A few days spent tucked away in a cabin with people you love does a lot to cozy up a bitterly cold Michigan winter.

Anni - I love these, looks like an amazing trip.

I’ve been wanting a cabin getaway lately, it looks so cozy!

amanda vanvels - love these. glad you girls had fun! it looks so cozy!

one evening

In late summer/ early fall I was working on developing a concept for my senior thesis, a task that prove to take a lot longer than I had hoped. As invigorating as it is to have the freedom to create anything you want, it is also somewhat intimidating, especially if you’re used to a bit of structure. Sometimes the best thing to do when you’re having a creative block is pick up the camera and head out to shoot. Thankfully, I have some pretty rad friends who were down to pay a visit to our lake mother, not knowing what I was looking for or what I needed, and just go with it. I ended up finally finding the inspiration I needed, though not this day. It came a lot later when I wasn’t even looking for it (as it so often does), but if nothing else, this day we had was a great day, and as I’ve been scrolling through the images I’ve been pining for those warm summer days and late sunsets. Here is a little bit of sun for a bitterly cold day. Swimsuits, we miss you.
